Tell us about yourself. What do you love doing in your spare time? What inspired you to newborn photography and do you photograph other genre’s in your business?

Junebug Photography was born with my first son. After I had him, I wanted to document every moment of his life so that I could always look back on it. This desire turned into a genuine love of photography, as well as an internal NEED to provide other moms with the ability to look back at their brand new babies too!

I feel that every mom deserves to have more than just selfies with their littles, so I decided to specialize in Motherhood Photography. More specifically, maternity, birth and newborn.

Choosing to specialize has been the most fun of all! I could snuggle and love on new babies for the rest of my life! And mommies proving how strong and capable our bodies are will always light a fire in my soul!

How would you describe your photography style? What inspires your work?

My style is very warm and rich, and stays true to natural tones and coloring. I LOVE shadows in imagery because I think it just adds an element of drama and helps to tell the story you are trying to create. My work is inspired by my internal desired to never do the same thing twice. I know that’s typically hard within the constraints of not having endless funds for endless props, but I try to always mix something up with what I do have available in my studio.

Who has inspried you and how did you first come across their work?

Lola Melani, Alli Peck, Angelica Sam, and Kayla Grey are huge inspirations when it comes to the “feel” I hope my images have! I first came across Lola on pinterest and then just through growing and learning within the maternity, birth, and newborn community I’ve learned about and grown to love the others.

What camera do you use? What are your favourite lenses and what’s typically in your camera bag?

I shoot with a Nikon D750 and a Tamron 24-70 I call Janet. Yes, I named my lenses, lol. Janet basically never comes off my camera unless I am shooting macro shots with Jenny, my Nikon 105mm. I also have a Sigma 50mm (Judy), however, she doesn’t get as much use as she did before I purchased Janet.

What is your favorite place to hold sessions and why?Where do you photograph most of your sessions? (in studio? on location?)

I am in love with my 1500sqft studio! I would shoot only studio sessions until the end of time if I could!

Growing pains: tell us about some of your challenges you have faced in your business, and how you overcame them.

I am a military spouse meaning we move around a LOT. But even so, due in part to my determined work ethic and tenacious personality, I have grown my part-time business from my dining room to my full-time 1500 sq ft studio while multiplying my sales average by 10 offering a very high end, luxury experience for my clients. In addition, my passion for helping others like me moved me in the direction of creating a workshop entitled “Here, There & Everywhere ” where students who are also military spouses learn to market like a champ, recognize their worth, and embrace their role as business owners!
