Shan Fisher

I’m looking for images that excel in lighting, composition, and all the technical elements. But most importantly, I want to see images that have meaning, tell a powerful story, and create impact.

Over the last 17 years, Shan has grown a successful photography business from the ground up and established a brand. Her company has received many prestigious awards as an enterprise with excellence.

Today her expertise extends beyond the lens. She is also a passionate educator and speaker, dedicated to inspiring and empowering photographers, like you to pursue your dreams, master your craft, and build thriving businesses, centered around your passions, all while living life to its fullest potential.

Kathryn Barredo

When posing newborns I want to see correct finger placement on the infant, soft and correctly positioned fingers can make or break a newborn pose aesthetically speaking.

Proper lighting is crucial with newborns, avoiding ghoul lighting and the newborns head also needs to be tilted in the correct direction for specific poses such as the chin on hands and bucket pose. If head tilt is wrong direction the lighting will become Ghoul lighting.

Clean and tidy wrapping is also needed to achieve the perfect portrait, if the wrapping looks lose or sloppy it becomes distracting and takes away from the full potential of the portrait.

Kathryn has been a professional photographer specializing in newborn and maternity photography for 13 years. She has also created a teaching platform called MomTog Educate and has taught hundreds of other newborn photographers over the past 5 years to perfect their craft. She loves studio light and neutral tones.

Bianca Hubble

I am looking for focused image, appealing composition, and excellent lighting.

Bianca Hubble is a professional photographer. She has been shooting professionally since June of 2005 and specializing in newborn and maternity photography since June of 2011. Bianca has a B.S. degree in Youth Ministry from Toccoa Falls College. She often jokes that she is just working with the really really young “youth”. Bianca’s work has been recognized in Sew Trendy Accessories’ “Best of ….” Her work has been published in International Journal of Child Birth and Points North Magazine. She has spoken in newborn conferences, was an instructor with Online Newborn and Maternity Retreat hosted by the Milky Way for 4 years, and she is an international Mentor for Newborn photographers. Bianca has trained over 120 newborn photographers in person individually or in very small groups in just over a year’s time and has trained several thousand through online e-workshops. She is also the inventor of the Newborn Cloud posing system for newborn photographers sold world wide. And today is spending more time shooting Seniors and studio sports sessions. Bianca lives in Toccoa, Georgia.

Tamarind Spender

With a competition judging I look for a feeling. An image that tells a story, no matter how simple. Good lighting and clean editing.

Hi there!!!! I am a professional newborn photographer in Guelph, ON, owner of Azure Photography. I mainly focus on newborns but also enjoy photographing maternity, sitters and cake smash sessions! I have been photographing newborns since January of 2014 and I absolutely LOVE it!! I have had a camera in my hand since I was 18 years old! I learned how to shoot film and worked at Black’s Photography through highschool and into University. My inspiration for starting my own business in photography was my little one. I wanted her to always know that taking a chance on something you love is worth it, no matter how it works out. I wanted to show her how to have confidence and follow her heart through life. I love this “job” and look forward to building many more relationships with my wonderful clients over the coming years.

    Katie Lintern

“When reviewing submissions, I’m looking for images that showcase thoughtful composition, consistent lighting, and (for newborn photography submissions) a clear mastery of safe baby posing techniques. I’m drawn to work that feels intentional and timeless, whether it’s a studio image with tasteful styling or an emotive and authentic lifestyle photo. I encourage participants to consider how their use of light, colour, and perspective enhances the emotional impact of their image and tells a story that resonates with the viewer. Above all, I’m excited to see work that reflects your unique voice and style as an artist.”

Hi, I’m Katie Lintern from Katie Lintern Photography, and I’m so excited to be part of this year’s APNPI judging panel. As a newborn, maternity, and family photographer based in Collingwood, Ontario, I’ve had the privilege of capturing some of the most meaningful moments in my clients’ lives over the past five years. Since opening my studio in 2019, I’ve worked with over 125 newborns and earned accreditation in both Studio Posed Newborn and In-Home Lifestyle Newborn categories. I’m currently Collingwood’s only registered, fully insured, Accredited and Qualified Newborn Photographer (QNP)—a distinction I’m proud to bring to my local community. Alongside my photography work, I serve as an APNPI Ambassador, and I’m honoured to contribute to this incredible organization in a judging capacity. Photography, for me, is always a balance between aesthetics and storytelling. In my studio, I gravitate toward warm, neutral tones and timeless, uncluttered backdrops that allow the baby to truly shine. I believe in creating images that will feel just as special decades from now as they do today. When I’m photographing families on location, my style shifts toward an emotive, documentary approach. I love capturing movement, connection, and those little in-between moments that tell a family’s unique story. Like many of you, I’ve built my business from scratch, learning through trial, error, and plenty of carb-fueled late nights. Along the way, I’ve discovered how important it is to develop and trust my own style while continuing to push myself creatively. I’m constantly inspired by the work of other photographers in our community and feel privileged to offer feedback that I hope will encourage and empower you on your own creative journey. Outside of photography, I’m a wife and a mom to three busy kids. Like many of you, I juggle running a business while raising a family, and I have a lot of respect for all of you trying to make it all work while building and sustaining your dream business. I’m looking forward to celebrating the creativity and dedication that this APNPI event brings to light. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, I know it takes courage to submit your work for critique, and I want you to know how much I respect that. I’ll be offering feedback with honesty and care, keeping in mind the heart and hard work behind every image. Thank you for trusting us with your art—I can’t wait to see the beautiful work you’ve created!

    Sarah Lake

I’ve been a hobby photographer since childhood, but like many mothers, started my professional photography journey after having my two children. A military wife of 20 years, I’ve now started (and moved!) my business in 3 different states, and am currently enjoying serving families in San Antonio, TX. Formerly a teacher and early education consultant, I’m also passionate about teaching aspiring newborn photographers what I’ve learned over my decade of photographing babies and families.

    Tianna Jarrett-Williams

For the submissions, impact is the most important element for me, I really want to see an image and be in awe!

I admire creativity and intention, it tells me that the maker has been selective about what they have chosen to enter and been specific about what they want the image to convey.

Uniqueness! I love to see something new or different!

Tianna Jarrett-WilliamsTianna is a maternity and newborn photographer based in Birmingham, United Kingdom where she has a small studio near to the city centre. Her love for this speciality grew from her past career as a professional and registered nurse and midwife. Whilst photography began as a hobby after the birth of her first daughter, she quickly fell in love with the craft and soon became consumed by the desire to be creative. After navigating a few specialities, Tianna settled on the art of pregnancy, motherhood and newborn photography because these genres in coalescence with her passion for women becoming mothers and their journey through motherhood inspires her daily. Whilst the primary focus is on maternity and newborn photography, Tianna does enjoy creative and styled projects with a special interest in culture which often can be appreciated in her work. Tianna lives with her two young children Zara and Olivia; and long term partner Ashley, near Birmingham.
