“I’ll be looking for correct studio or natural lighting, posing of subject and editing techniques as well as emotional connection.”

Alli Peck is a Newborn and maternity studio photographer based in BC, Canada with over 20 years of experience. I’ve taught lighting and posing workshops around the world and have been a guest speaker at APNPI, Imaging USA, PPA, and PPOC. Over the decades, I’ve adapted to the evolving trends and technical shifts in the industry, with a strong focus on maintaining the highest standards of safety during every session.

“I’m especially drawn to strong, intentional use of lighting that enhances the subject without distracting from them. I also pay close attention to angles and composition, looking for perspectives that are both flattering and thoughtfully executed. Clean, purposeful posing is always important. Creativity is also important to me – unique setups, styling, or subtle details that elevate the overall image.”

Amy Guenther is an award-winning newborn and child photographer based in Cedar Falls, Iowa. With over a decade of experience behind the camera, she is known for her signature clean, monochromatic style and her ability to create timeless, baby-focused imagery. Amy is the co-founder of The Newborn Nerds, an education and prop company dedicated to helping photographers refine their craft through tools, resources, and hands-on learning. She regularly travels across the country speaking at photography conferences and workshops, sharing her expertise in newborn posing, lighting, and workflow. Passionate about both artistry and education, Amy is committed to elevating the standard of newborn photography and inspiring others to grow in both skill and confidence.

“As an image competition judge I am looking for visual impact, technical knowledge and skill coming together to create images that draw the viewer into the story behind the photographs. I think skillful editing will be a major factor as AI editing begins to take over. Just as when a photographer first learns Photoshop, it’s a skill in knowing how to use the tools in a way that still allows a natural look that isn’t fake or overdone. I’m excited to see all the submissions from our talented members!”

Tara Graham:

I am mom to one wildly creative and stong-headed little boy. I started photography long before he came along though, having gone to college for Creative Photography, and then working in various studios doing portrait, commercial/editorial, and wedding work. One day I decided to tell my husband we were moving so I could have a home studio, and that really allowed me to grow my newborn business, having a dedicated space for it. I also love to photograph families! I love the interactions and being able to get those photos that parents say really captures their child’s essence or personality.

Denise Jackson

I’m a newborn photographer, educator, presets and actions designer, and photo editor behind Appleseed Photography. I’m passionate about capturing meaningful, timeless newborn moments while helping other photographers grow through education and tools that simplify their workflow. I’m your newborn photographer bestie and I bring that same supportive, detail oriented energy into my role as a judge!

"I’m looking for newborn images that reflect a high level of skill in editing technique, posing, safety, and lighting. Safe and intentional posing is essential, along with soft, controlled lighting and clean, natural editing."

Tamarind Spender

I am looking for excellent technical understanding and execution. Great lighting and harmonious colours and elements in the image.

How it started: After my daughter was born in 2013, I embarked on an incredible journey and decided to turn my passion into a profession. I wanted to show her that following your dreams is possible in this life. Azure Photography was born, and with it, a deep commitment to preserving precious moments that would last a lifetime. I initially started working from the cozy corners of my own home, pouring my heart and soul into every shot.

The Studio: As time went on, my aspirations grew, and I realized I needed a space as grand and beautiful as the stories I wanted to capture. That’s when I found my calling in the heart of downtown Guelph—the largest and most awe-inspiring studio space imaginable. It is here that my vision has truly flourished, and I am happy to provide my clients with an unforgettable photography experience.
