The story behind this newborn session…

I have been focused to newborn portraiture for 4 years now, in that time I have really focused on my education on newborn safety and posing.
My next step was to learn how to provide variety in my work while maintaining a cohesive gallery.
This is the very first time I believe that I had a vision for the session, and all the extra work I put into it showed in my edit results.

I planned each image, lighting and posing with my stand in baby. I even edited one of my test shots with my stand in baby.

I wrote down reminders on a sticky note attached to my cart of close by posing essentials.

This session showed me how far I have come, and that my education on posing and working with newborns is paying off!
It also was the reminder I needed to slow down in my planning. less can be more.

Planning this session, I only set 3 props (a bed, a bucket, and a basket) I wanted to create variety by switching from a bonnet to a head band or vertical with the side light curtains to horizontal with no curtains.
how cute is her little dimple chin *heart eyes*
Introduced big brother as baby was so content (and so cute!)

I am the photographer behind the lens at Ellie Marie Photography

I am a dress twirling, wrong lyric singing, snort laughing, coffee in one hand and a camera in the other kind of girl.

I am Mama to two girls, they are 6 and 11 years old. We recently moved to Alberta to be close to family, as much as I miss the mountains and ocean views in BC I have really come to love the community and friendships we have found here in Airdrie.

Ever since I was a little girl , photographs have held a special place in my heart. I would shuffle through the shoe boxes of photos and film that my mom had tucked away for hours and hours! I find it incredible that we have the ability to capture details and moments in time to look back at, to relive in a special moment.

In high school I started film photography classes, instantly I was in love. I continued to take photography classes through graduation and again in post secondary.

When my first daughter was born in 2012 my husband surprised me with my very first DSLR Camera. At first I took photos for my own family, then some friends asked, and their friends would ask.. and now here I am!

Over the years I have continued to work with and be mentored by leaders in the field of Newborn photography. I am constantly investing in my own art and learning new styles, techniques, and safety practices to provide the best service to my families.

Along with capturing timeless newborn portraits, I take pride in building relationships with my families. Having a genuine relationship between family and photographer is what takes the stress away from your family sessions. It is my goal to create an environment where everyone is comfortable and excited to get your photos done. I love watching your babies grow up with you!

Thank you for reading, ♡ing, following along & supporting me & my family.

Love & light

– Ellie
