Setting myself apart form other photographers in my area has been my biggest challenge. I overcome them by sticking to my goals, focusing on my own business, and giving my clients the most personable and best experience I could possibly give.

Tell us about yourself. What do you love doing in your spare time? What inspired you to newborn photography and do you photograph other genre’s in your business?

I am 25, married with two children (boys) Rory 3, and Reece 8 months. I LOVE babies, and photographing newborns brings me joy. Theres not really a way to describe it, but I love it. I photograph maternity, birth, newborns and family. The whole creating and bringing life into this world fascinates me, I think pregnancy and birth are beautiful.

How would you describe your photography style? What inspires your work?

For newborns, I love organic, earth tones, and jewel tones, but I love expanding through other colors. For other sessions, I love moody, and warm.

Who has inspried you and how did you first come across their work?

Amy McDaniel from Dewdrops photography, and Lisa, from A Piece of Lisa. Both are so different, but so talented. I came across both of them on Facebook.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting a newborn photography business?

Education! The best place for you to start is mentoring with someone, learning about newborn safety, and educating yourself on proper lighting and posing. It will make all the difference!

What camera do you use? What are your favourite lenses and what’s typically in your camera bag?

Canon 5D Mark III. My favorite lens is my 24-70mm, and my 100mm.

What is your favorite place to hold sessions and why?Where do you photograph most of your sessions? (in studio? on location?)

I have a studio, and I love that it is equipped with everything needed for a successful newborn shoot, but I do love shooting outdoors, and using golden light, to produce those dreamy images.

Tell us about starting your business, and what played a key role in developing a profitable income.

IPS. It was a game changer for me. On top of producing beautiful pieces of work for my clients to display, its been beneficial to my business and my family.

Growing pains: tell us about some of your challenges you have faced in your business, and how you overcame them.

The photography market is highly saturated with photographers, and new ones pop up everyday. So setting myself apart form other photographers in my area has been my biggest challenge. I overcome them by sticking to my goals, focusing on my own business, and giving my clients the most personable and best experience I could possibly give.

What should clients expect when working with you?

Clients should expect me to give them an experience. I’m not going to just give you a disk of images and send you on your way. I will be with you from the beginning to the end. I want to completely customize your experience. I want you to feel as passionate about your photos that I do. I want to make this enjoyable, rememberable, and as simple as possible. This is something I want you to look back on in the future and say, “that was a great experience, and we love our images. She really took the time to get to know us and our needs.”
